When you're relying on everything from talent and funding to hundreds of mechanical parts and Mother Nature to all come together in your favor at once, it becomes clear that racing can be a rough girl sometimes. Despite their best efforts, such was the case this past weekend for Cade Dillard and the No. 97 Snickers LG21 team.
The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental continued with a tripleheader in the northern part of the country beginning on Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wis. After puncturing a radiator in qualifying action, the team decided not to take a provisional due to the hammer-down, extremely rough racing surface facing the drivers for the main event.
The series headed to the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis., on Friday. Working forward in his heat race, Dillard was caught up in a another car's quick spin and wound up racing his way into the main event with through a Real Racing Wheels "B" Main. He started 17th in the 40-lap feature and wound up with a 14th-place finish.
On Saturday, the team trekked even further north to the Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minn. After a strong heat race run, Dillard drew the #8 starting spot for the "A" Main and eventually settled for a 13th-place finish.
Dillard ranks eighth in USMTS points with 7 of 15 Hunt races in the books. Next week the USMTS heads to the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., on Friday, Aug. 21, and then to the Salina Highbanks Speedway in Pryor Creek, Okla., on Saturday, Aug. 22.
