Club 91 invaded the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the 2nd Annual USRA National Championships on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-17.
Opening night was a rough one as the wheelman, Joe Duvall, was involved in a melee in his heat race that ripped off nearly half of the body work. Mired deep in a "B" Main, he was unable to get by enough of his fellow competitors to get a spot in the "A" Main.
Friday evening found 'Big Daddy' drawing the back row of his heat race again. He was able to race from eighth to fifth, but again had to run a "B" Main where his run ended again for the second night.
With a renewed focus and every bolt tightened and double-checked on the No. 91 MB Customs machine, the team started off Saturday with a sixth-place finish in the qualifying heat race. with that, Duvall found himself in a Last Chance Race but found himself crossing the finish line first to earn a spot in the championship main event. He started 24th and finished 21st after the track took rubber early and resulted in somewhat of a single-file 35 laps of racing.
