Joe Duvall and the Club 91 racing team returned to the Sooner State this past weekend for a trio of events at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla., to wrap up the 2016 USMTS Winter Speedweeks campaign.
"Big Daddy" got things rolling right away on Thursday with a wire-to-wire win in the third heat race. After redrawing the seventh starting spot, Joe wound up with a 16th-place finish in the $2,000-to-win main event.
Things got off to a less-than-stellar start on Friday with a tough draw in a tough heat and a sixth-place finish. After mechanical troubles sidelined him in the "B" Main, Joe was forced to use a USMTS points provisional to take the 26th and final starting spot in the $3,000-to-win "A" Main. He made the most of his gift, passing seven cars en route to a 19th-place finish.
Saturday's finale kicked off with Joe claiming a runner-up finish in his heat race, but it wasn't enough to get a guaranteed spot in the $4,000-to-win main event. In the "B" Main, he waxed the field for a dominating win to earn the 15th starting spot in the big dance. when the checkers waved after 50 hard fought laps, Joe pulled on the trailer with the car in one piece and a 17th-place paycheck.
The team pulled out of Ardmore with teammate Scott Drake sitting eighth in the regional points standings, just six markers ahead of Joe in tenth.
With USMTS Winter Speedweeks and the first dozen dates in the Production Jars Southern Region in the books, attention turns to the season-opening trio of races to launch the MSD Central Region presented by Day Motor Sports.
