Duvall, race car, family and home survive King of America VI weekend

To say the least, it was a whirlwind week for Joe Duvall.

With the team locked and loaded at the Humboldt Speedway for King of America VI presented by Chix Gear, Mother Nature snuck up on the Duvall home back in Oklahoma with a deadly tornado ripping through the family's property.

Duvall quickly returned home to find his family safe and the house still standing, but on the outside the property was littered with debris, damaged items and more than twenty trees destroyed.

For the rest of the weekend it was a 100-mile commute back and forth between the track and home, and the weekend on the race track didn't start off much better. Minding his own business at the start of his heat race, 'Big Daddy' got caught up in a melee in the first turn that left his MB Customs Modified looking like it has been hit by a twister.

Headed up by crew chief Scott Drake, the team was able to make repairs and keep him going, but a cloud of smoke and blown head gasket ended their run on Saturday night in the "C" Main. However, during the provisional auction Joe was outbid for the spot, but was able to "buy in" for the 28th starting spot since the former champion's provisional went unclaimed.

Most importantly, the more than $5,000 raised from the two auctioned starting spots was earmarked for the Grant Junghans Foundation and will be used to help treat and cure cancer in young children.

Once in the main event, Joe completed 60 of the 72 laps and left with a 20th-place finish out of the 106 drivers that entered the weekend's event.
