Schott finishes fifth in Dakota Classic points

Luke was asked to race the July 5-11 Dakota Classic Modified Tour driving an LG2 Chassis for Kody Scholpp. He flew out Tuesday to Minot, N.D., for some practice time and spend a few days with the Scholpp family in Canada. On Friday, July 3, he will be in Williston, N.D., and then Minot on Saturday for weekly events before the tour starts next Sunday for six straight days of racing in North Dakota and Canada.

Here's a recap of the daily events on the Dakota Classic Modified Tour:

Sunday, July 5, Nodak Speedway, Minot, N.D. — Ninety-three cars signed in for opening night. Luke started seventh and won his heat race. After starting the “A” Main on the outside of the third row, he garnered a respectable seventh-place finish.

Monday, July 6, Estevan Motor Speedway, Estevan, Sask. — Luke had a little struggle in the heat after getting too high on the cushion and fell back to fourth. He started fifth in the “B” Main and finished third to advance to the “A” Main where he wound up 19th.

Tuesday, July 7, Williston Basin Speedway, Williston, N.D. — “Cool Hand Luke” was back racing in Williston, N.D., Tuesday where he had won the weekly feature on Friday. He started fifth in a stacked heat race and won. Luke finished fifth in the “A” Main.

Wednesday, July 8, Southwest Speedway, Dickinson, N.D. — In Wednesday's show, Luke started third in his heat race and won it again to advance to the “A” Main. In the feature, the track took rubber and he finished ninth.

Thursday, July 9, Dacotah Speedway, Mandan, N.D. — Luke won his heat race, which locked him into the redraw for the feature. It was his fourth heat race win out of five starts. He finished second in the feature race.. He's currently fifth in the points with one race to go.

Friday, July 10, Jamestown Speedway, Jamestown, N.D. — Once again Luke won his heat race to himself in the redraw. He drew the outside of the front row, but unfortunately rain forced the main event to be canceled and all drivers in the main event split the prize money evenly. He finished fifth in the final series points for the week.
