Schott survives for 12th at King of America VI

Schott survives for 12th at King of America VI

Behind the wheel of a brand new MB Customs modified exquisitely wrapped by Forty9 Designs, Lucas Schott and his team opened up the 2016 campaign this past week at the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., for King of America VI presented by Chix Gear.

Each driver competed in two qualifying heats on Thursday and two on Friday, with the best three efforts counting toward each driver's overall points to set the line-ups for Saturday's main events.

Lucas kicked things off with a third-place finish from the fifth starting spot in round 1 and then charged past four drivers to finish fourth in his second session. Round 3 qualifying saw 'Cool Hand Luke' roar from 11th on the grid to finish fourth again before starting and finishing second in his fourth and final heat race.

Out of 106 entries for the event, Lucas ranked 14th in overall points after two days, setting him up on the outside of the front row for Saturday's "B" Main. After suffering damage to his spoiler early on, he manhandled his machine to the end to place fifth and earn a spot in the $12,000-to-win, 72-lap big dance.

Starting 17th, Lucas struggled to find a rhythm early on, but mounted a charge over the final half of the race to take the 12th spot at the checkered flag and the accompanying $1,250 paycheck.
