2nd Annual USMTS Sparkling City Nationals
Finished 20th on SaturdayFinished 10th on Sunday
After sitting in the rain and cold for two straight days, Joe Duvall kicked of the 2014 season Saturday night at the South Texas Speedway. Driving for a new team with a new chassis and a new engine at a track he's never visited before, Duvall didn't know what to expect. However, after a strong run from fifth to second his heat race, "Big Daddy" knew he had himself a rocket ship. He drew the pole for the USMTS main event and ran second or third for the first half of the race until a caution came out. During the slow-down, the tires glazed over and he was forced to duck into the pits shortly thereafter, but emerged with plenty of confidence going forward. On Sunday, qualifying was much tougher and he had to get into the main event through a B-Main. Once in the big show, however, neither the tough competition nor the heavy fog could slow him down as he raced from the tail of the field to pass more than a dozen cars and finish tenth. On to Baytown!

Did not qualify on Saturday
The first of three nights with the USMTS at the Royal Purple Raceway got underway Thursday night for Joe Duvall and the Trucks Unlimited #91 team. THURSDAY: Tonight wasn't quite what we had planned. A lackluster heat race really got Duvall in a hole. He drove hard in the B-Main but didn't get a transfer spot. Driver is still all smiles. Life is good. FRIDAY: We got lucky twice early on Friday. Frist, we drew the pole for the first heat and then, while running second, leader Johnny Scott had a battery failure and we were able to sneak by at the finish line to win. We redrew fifth to start the main event. Pretty rough racetrack in the feature tonight. Duvall was having a pretty tough time getting around. "No excuses, I just didn't get it done," he said. "You need to be able to pick up your lap times a half-second for the feature. I need to get there." Luckily though, Duvall and his teammates are making features, but just need to pick up the pace late. "I'm very blessed to be where I am, and extremely thankful for this opportunity," Duvall added. SATURDAY: Rough night for the Trucks Unlimited team. Drew the last starting spot in a stacked heat race but got to sixth, but then couldn't battle our way out of the B-Main. On to El Paso next weekend. Full results at www.USMTS.com

THURSDAY: We weren't able to practice, so my heat race was my first laps on the track. We struggled and didn't make the feature tonight; FRIDAY: It was another tough night and we got pin-balled quite a bit, but we made the main event and wound up 20th; SATURDAY: What a wild night. We won our heat race and started seventh in the 50-lap main event. We were passing a guy to only have him drive across my nose and pretty much take me out (spun to avoid) but kept the car going no yellow flag. Fast forward 40 laps later and we finished 10th. We will finish the region out 11th in points and locked in to the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's National Championship. The Major League Bowhunter Central Region starts in two weeks in Topeka, Kan.

9th Annual Spring Fling @ The Bullring
Did not qualify for Main EventWe moved forward in our heat race, but not enough to make the main event. We got sixth in the "B" Main, but only four got to dance so it was a short night for the Trucks Unlimited Club 91 squad. Thanks to Ma Nature, it was a short weekend too as both Saturday and Sunday have been cancelled due to impending rain and cold.

Inaugural Event
Did not qualify for Main EventPretty miserable night in Greenville Thursday. With 51 USMTS Modifieds on hand, we started 8th in Heat #5 and finished 5th. We started 4th in B-Main #3, but things didn't go as planned on the tight little bullring. Cut right front tire = $100. Bent left rear wheel = $150. Sheet metal damage = $5. Driver loaded safely in hauler = priceless! Next stop: Timberline Speedway in Corley, Texas.

Preliminary/Qualifying Night on Saturday
Joe finished his qualifying heat races in second and ninth place on Thursday. On Friday, "Big Daddy" was left with nowhere to go when a spin happened right in front of him. The driver walked away unhurt, but the #91 Trucks Unlimited MB Customs machined is junk. Too much damage, so we will be watching on Saturday, along with a little side work on the microphone with the RacinDirt.com boys.

The crash broke his steering and Joe's night ended on the wrecker's tow hook.
